*She may not have gone home with an Emmy, or a place in Emmy history, but it appears that Kerry Washington was the belle of the ball – before, during and after Sunday’s 65th annual Primetime Emmy Awards telecast.
The “Scandal” star hit the red carpet in the finale gown from Marchesa’s spring fashion show – held just earlier this month. “To get that dress out to Los Angeles, fitted just right and have the whole coordinated look in such a short time shows that Washington is the fashion world It Girl,” wrote AP fashion criticSamantha Critchell.

Diahann Carroll, the first African-American Emmy nominee in 1963 for “Naked City,” created one of the ceremony’s most heartfelt moments when she took the stage with Washington and noted the importance of diversity in the industry and Emmys.
“Tonight, she better get this award,” Carroll said of Washington, who covered her eyes in embarrassment.
Had she won, Washington would have become the first African-American to earn an award for best actress in a drama series.

“Homeland’s” Claire Danes would win the category, but the loss didn’t stop Washington from hitting the after parties.
According to the AP, “She was a popular target for partygoers’ photo requests and she graciously obliged at the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood, Calif,” wrote the AP’s Beth Harris.
“She perused the long dessert table but didn’t take any before moving on to the bar. While Washington waited for her drink, she munched on three green olives stuck on a toothpick and presented by the bartender.”
