J.Lo Falls for her Movie Son: ‘I Almost Took that Baby Home’

Holly (Jennifer Lopez) and Alex (Rodrigo Santoro) in What To Expect When You're Expecting

Jennifer Lopez’s character in “What to Expect When You’re Expecting” turns to adoption when she and her husband have difficulty conceiving — and just like her character, the actress fell madly in love with the tiny actor who teamed with his twin brother to play her new son.

“I almost took that baby home,” Lopez said of 2-year-old Samuel, who took to her immediately off-camera before their first scene was shot.

Samuel and his twin brother Asher were adopted from Ethiopia by Atlanta couple Kindred and Meredith Howard. According to People.com, the boys were severely malnourished and suffered from meningitis and sepsis after their biological mother died at childbirth.

After bringing the twins to Atlanta to join the couple’s three other children, daughter Emerson, 9, and sons William, 6, and Carson, 4, the Howards nursed the twins back to health – and eventually, onto the Atlanta set of “What to Expect When You’re Expecting.”

“Sammy was the first one to cuddle up to Jennifer,” Kindred told People.com. “I thought, ‘He just weaseled his way into the top spot.’ There were times when I would look at Jennifer between takes and she would be playing peek-a-boo with Samuel.”

Asher took more to actor Rodrigo Santoro, who played Lopez’s husband.

“So Sammy is the one you see in just about all of the scenes with Jennifer and Asher is in the dude scene with Rodrigo,” explains Howard. “Between shooting, Rodrigo was taking pictures on his phone of he and Asher. It was the sweetest thing.”

Below, Jennifer (and co-star Wendi McLendon-Covey) talks about the quick bond J.Lo formed with Samuel and how the time she spent with both twins made her re-consider adopting a baby in the future.
