Last
week, the Black
Entertainment and Sports Lawyers Association held their Mid-Year
conference at Fordham Law School with an incredible line-up of
Entertainment and Sports Executives, including DeMaurice Smith (Executive
Director, NFLPA), Michele Roberts (Executive Director, NBPA),
and honorary speaker L.A. Reid (CEO of Epic Records), among
others.
Matthew
J. Middleton hosted a "One on One" with L.A. Reid that
presented a very honest perspective of what is required while working within
entertainment. He also emphasized his respect for lawyers within the industry.
The
first panel discussion "Navigating A Career In Entertainment and
Sports" included Lori Aiken (Chief Talent
Officer, Sony Pictures), Kerry Chandler (Chief Human
Resources Officer, Under Armour), Jim Jones (SVP, Education
and Diversity Solutions, NAMIC), and was moderated by Endi
Piper (TV One).
Senior legal and business executives
shared their insights on the "General Counsel's
Roundtable" panel that included Antonious
Porch (General Counsel, Shazam), Endi Piper (SVP,
Business and Legal Affairs,TV One), Keyes Hill-Edgar (EVP,
Business Affairs, and General Counsel, Viacom Media Networks),
and was moderated by Derek Jackson (Under Armour).
The
packed room was full of insight. Elke Suber moderated the discussion
of "The Impact on Digital Media on
Sports Broadcasting, Sports Marketing, and Entertainment Content
Distribution" with Carlos Fleming (SVP, Talent
Management, WME/IMG), Reggie Williams (CEO, Ambrosia
of Heads), Eve Wright (SVP, US Sports Marketing, Unscripted),
and Mason Ashe (President, Ashe Sports &
Entertainment Consulting).
