Quentin Tarantino Talks Screening D'Jango Unchained to a Black Audience

Quentin TarantinoEurweb's reporter Kam Williams sat down with D'Jango Unchained and he got to describe what it was like to screen the film to a black audience.

Let’s put it like this: We screened it for heavily-black audiences quite a few times, where the audience was between 40 and 60 percent black. That’s pretty black. We also screened it for a 100 percent black audience, and you would’ve thought it was 1973 and they were watching the end of Coffy [A blaxploitation era flick starring Pam Grier]. It’s funny because I was sitting next to [executive producer] Harvey Weinstein and he turns to me and says, “I guess we know who we made this movie for.” [LOL] But the film really has a lot of ups and downs, and taps into a lot of different emotions. To me, the trick was balancing all those emotions, so that I could get you where I wanted you to be by the very end. I wanted the audience cheering in triumph at the end. So, as rough as some of the things I show in the movie are, they couldn’t be so rough that you’re too traumatized to enjoy the movie any longer.

Just Saw Django Unchained

Atlanta media and celebrities got an early treat for Christmas with the advanced screening of Django Unchained, the must see film for Christmas this year.  The event was hosted by The 135th Street Agency and introduced by Atlanta's reality superstars Stevie J (Love & Hiip Hop Atlanta) and Trina Braxton (The Braxton's).

Set in the 1800's, just before the Civil War, slavery was still alive and well and Django played by Jaime Foxx is a slave and a husband on a mission to find his wife Broomhilda. Bought and freed by Dr. Schultz, a smooth talking German bounty hunter, Django teams up with the bogus dentist and becomes the south's first freed black bounty hunter.

Though his mission was clear to find his wife Broomhhilda (Kerry Washington), Django and Schultz kill and collect their bounty while on their way to the most famous plantation in the south. Candie Land. The plantation owner Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio) extends his hospitatlity with some apprehension for this free and outspoken black man. Django also encounters Stephen (Samuel L. Jackson), the most loyal-to-the-death house nigga ever seen on screen. Stephen had his master's back and roamed the plantation as if it were his own. After finding Broomhilda, Django must now rescue her from the grips of Candie Land and Stephen.

From beginning to end, Django Unchained is action packed and unsuspecting. There is no mistaken this is a Quentin Tarantino movie. The killings had his fingerprint all over it. There was no filter on death in this movie.

Lastly, Django Unchained is so full of unique terms and quotes I had to repeat some of my favs:
-Look, it's a nigger on a horse!
- Mandingo Fighting
- Beat-ass Nigga
- Like a pool of black tar, once it catches you, your ass is caught!

Django Unchained will be in theaters everywhere on Christmas Day.
Merry Christmas,

The Damzel....

Jamie Foxx in Django Unchained - Opens Christmas Day

Set in the South two years before the Civil War, DJANGO UNCHAINED stars Academy Award®-winner Jamie Foxx as Django, a slave whose brutal history with his former owners lands him face-to-face with German-born bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz (Academy Award®-winner Christoph Waltz). Schultz is on the trail of the murderous Brittle brothers, and only Django can lead him to his bounty. The unorthodox Schultz acquires Django with a promise to free him upon the capture of the Brittles - dead or alive. Success leads Schultz to free Django, though the two men choose not to go their separate ways. Instead, Schultz seeks out the South's most wanted criminals with Django by his side.
Honing vital hunting skills, Django remains focused on one goal: finding and rescuing Broomhilda (Kerry Washington), the wife he lost to the slave trade long ago. Django and Schultz's search ultimately leads them to Calvin Candie (Academy Award®-nominee Leonardo DiCaprio), the proprietor of "Candyland," an infamous plantation. Exploring the compound under false pretenses, Django and Schultz arouse the suspicion of Stephen (Academy Award®-nominee Samuel L. Jackson), Candie's trusted house slave. Their moves are marked, and a treacherous organization closes in on them. If Django and Schultz are to escape with Broomhilda, they must choose between independence and solidarity, between sacrifice and survival.

Is Katt For Real? Tears? He's Retiring?

By , Eurweb
Katt Williams is “kinda done” and has decided it’s time to throw in the towel and hang up his comedy hat.
“I’m just gonna go ahead and announce my retirement from standup, I’m kinda done,” Williams said in a video taped for KOMO TV. “I’ve discussed it with my kids, I wasn’t gonna do it in the middle of a Seattle street, I was going to go to Los Angeles and do it in the offices of ICM or LiveNation.”
He also went on to vent about how law enforcement has treated him, labeling him a misfit and troublemaker.
“This was a place (Seattle) I like to bring my kids and let them do stuff without people caring who they were,” he said. “I got arrested in front of my kids three times in my three days stay in Seattle… And all we were doing was coming into town to sell jokes and police department painted me as some sort of public menace that came to town.”
CNN is reporting that Williams told KOMO that he would remain in Seattle until a Thursday court date on the criminal charges and while he files a lawsuit against the city “for this $50 million that I want for crippling my reputation as a father and a black man and as a taxpaying citizen and as a person who is not a convicted felon.”

Williams “exchanged words with patrons in the bar, brandished a pool cue at a bar manager and refused to leave the business,” and later refused to show identification to a police officer who had been called to the scene, a Seattle police news release said.
Officer Michael Virgilio wrote in the arrest report that the World Sports Bar manager told him Williams had returned to the bar Sunday after being involved in a dispute with a customer the night before.
“I suppose you’re going to ask me to take my hands out of my pockets, huh?” Williams said to Virgilio, according to the report.
Williams refused to give his name or show an ID, but “yelled out a (California) driver’s license number,” the officer wrote.
When Virgilio warned he would arrest him for obstruction unless he produced an ID, Williams said “no.” The comedian then turned around and placed his hands behind his back “on his own accord,” the arrest report said.
“Two of Williams’ associates were standing nearby and were pleading for Williams to calm down,” the officer wrote.
The film “Sparkle” was recently released to DVD and in honor of that, EURweb’s associate Crystal Shaw-King’s snagged a one-on-one with Mike Epps.

Mike Epps
As we'd expect, Mike kept it all the way real on how he, out of all the cast members may have related to Whitney Houston most on the set of the film and what he really thinks about reprising his role of “Black Doug” in the upcoming sequel “Hangover 3”. He also makes no bones about his true feelings regarding all of Kevin Hart’s success.

Finally, what role does Mike Epps covet more than any other? Take a listen...this is funny.
