Ray Lavender With a Splash of Tequila

What I got when I walked into the room was a big smile and hugs from Ray Lavender and his manager Drew. Is that rare? Hell yes. But I'm not surprised with this duo. Just twenty-four hours earlier they played host to a group of media and Ray Lavender supporters to listen to his new joint 'Tequila' at Diamonds, Atlanta's hottest gentleman's' club. If you didn't know him, you would have thought he was the host and not the man of the hour.

I'd like to think its just me, but the warm welcoming feeling and clean honesty that I got from Ray was the meeting of two people from the same place and an understanding of where he came from. Growing up in Monroe, Louisiana doesn't offer the guarantee of accessibility to many of life's dreams and ambitions, but in Ray's case it set a solid foundation of love and support of family and friends.

“In my family they call me 'Mane' and I'm like the superstar in my family. I go to my family reunions and they still make me sing. My uncle always say 'Mane! Do that Sam Cooke A Change Gone Come! Then my cousins say nah, nah Mane! Do that R. Kelly mix you do. So I do a mix of R. Kelly. My peers and my family were my first fans and knew I was gonna blow up and now when I go back they say 'I told you Mane! I told you.”

With the growing popularity of 'Tequila', Ray insists the Caribbean and Calypso infused party song was spawn from the vibe of a club night out. “I was in a club called Harlem Nights and saw how people were reacting when drinks were being delivered with sparklers shooting from the bottle. The vibe was hot and people were dancing and having a good time. So we took that back to the studio and that's what you get with tequila.”

What is Ray Lavender's drink of choice? Don Julio tequila with a splash of cranberry but admits he's only a social drinker and prefers to keep a level head. He goes on to say he has Indian blood in him so he can't hold his liquor very well. Funny.

A can't miss on the upcoming album is the Ray and Tank mash up on 'Your Body'. As he tells it, “we went in! Tank is extra-ordinary when it comes to making records....My label asked me if there was any R&B artist I could work with, who would it be and I said Tank. The next day I was in the studio working with Tank!..he is extra-ordinary when it comes to making records.

Ray's second single 'We Love' is what the ladies who love Ray have been waiting for. In a nutshell, Ray explains it as, “I know we may love each other differently, and we may not see eye to eye sometimes. But at the end of the day, we both love each other. We just love each other differently.'

You love me this way, and I love you that way
It’s alright!
Just as long as we’re loving each other
Without you I’d be so inferior!
Besides, I need you in my life
Cause we love baby, we love baby

In speaking of matters of the heart, Ray is never too shy to share even when he's been hurt. So I gave him the floor to speak to the fans:

“It can feel so good when you both love each other. It's like no other feeling. But there's a catch 22 to love. Because love can eat you up. It can have you losing weight... It can hurt so bad when the other one aint loving you like you love them...and I know somebody is reading this like 'Damn, he said that!”...Love is so powerful that you don't want to be in it cause the last time hurt so bad when it didn't work out the way they wanted it to....

Me and this girl was talking and I thought she was the one. One day I'm sitting in the car with my homeboy and she calls him!... He was dating the same girl I was dating! Me and Kyle was at the Gwinnett Mall and he was like, 'yeah I think I'm in love with this one.'... Man I was eating my Checkers burger and I lost my appetite. I couldn't eat. I know it sound like the R. Kelly/Usher song 'Same Girl' but this wasn't no damn twin...I had to let that go. You wanna let the world know you in love, but the world done had your girl...”

I'm putting my stamp of approval the Ray Lavender project. It comes natural for him and that's not mixed or mastered in the studio.

Love & Hip Hop Joceline Debuts Bailar

?Te quieres bailar?
You want to bailar?
Bailar is Spanish for dance and that’s exactly what Love and Hip-Hop’s Joseline Hernandez wants you to do. She recently released a new track on her website and we supposed Stevie J helped her produce it. Tell us what you think of the track in the comments section.

We all love good music and lately, its not coming from the good 'ole USA. Melanie Fiona, Drake and the Biebs hail from Canada. Mega hit Adele comes from across the pond in the UK. The US has been playing host to major breakout stars from abroad and many find it refreshing.

Will Smith to Produce tale of Cain and Abel

A story as old as the Old Testament, Will Smith is looking to make his directorial debut on a film about the biblical story of Cain and Abel.

The project is in development at Sony and is being produced by Smith’s Overbrook Entertainment.
According to Deadline, the script has been in Smith’s sights for some time and has gone under the working title of “The Redemption of Cain.”

Sources have confirmed that it’s now being developed as directing vehicle for Smith, who’ll likely star in the movie as well.

“Cain” isn’t the only biblical project on the horizon in Hollywood. Director Darren Aronofsky starts production with Russell Crowe on “Noah,” and both Steven Spielberg and Ridley Scott have “Moses” projects in development.

Pooch Hall Wants Back on 'The Game'

Pooch Hall
Now that we all know Pooch Hall and Tia Mowry are taking an exit from popular BET dramedy, “The Game,” the actor is attempting to negotiate a return.

When the news first emerged, the public was lead to believe Pooch would not be returning on the account of landing a more time consuming gig with Showtime. But according to the actor, that’s not the case.

During a morning chat on “The Breakfast Club,” he mentioned that he needs to be able to do both shows.  But it might happen since the network expressed interest on bringing Tia back as well.

“I can’t say what’s going on with BET, but Pooch Hall is ready,”  Pooch encouraged listeners to “have faith” the series would return as normal for the next season. So just sit back and wait.

J-Lo Says Adios to Idol

Jennifer Lopez
Jennifer Lopez followed Steven Tyler's lead off "American Idol" on Friday confirming that she will not be back for a third season of the cult following talent show.

And now there is one...again.That means the "Idol" panel is down to one, original judge Randy Jackson, and there are reports that he may take a different role when the Fox show returns next January.

Lopez broke the news to "Idol" host Ryan Seacrest on his radio show.

"I really was dreading this phone call with you," she told him. "I honestly feel like the time has come that I have to get back to doing the other things that I do that I've put kind of on hold because I love 'Idol' so much."

When it returns for its 12th season next January, "Idol" will have to be a reengineered version of the once-powerhouse series that turned hopefuls such as Jennifer Hudson into stars and gave network rivals fits.

Speculation about potential new panelists has focused on Mariah Carey, with former "Idol" runner-up Adam Lambert getting a shout-out from his fans. Much is at stake for the show and for its judges: Lopez's contract reportedly was worth $12 million and the stint proved a career-booster for her.

Fox spokespersons and Randy Jackson did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez and Randy Jackson
Tyler started the exodus with his announcement Thursday that he was putting rock 'n' roll ahead of the show that he said had been "over-the-top fun."

"I strayed from my first love, Aerosmith, and I'm back — but instead of begging on my hands and knees, I got two fists in the air and I'm kicking the door open with my band," Tyler said in a statement. Aerosmith is on a nationwide tour with Tyler and has an album due out in the fall.

In a phone interview Thursday with The Associated Press as the news about Tyler broke, Lopez had said she was saddened to hear that Tyler was leaving and that his departure would play a role in her decision.
"I can't even imagine anyone else there right now because I've just spent two years sitting next to him," she said. "I love Steven, and we became close during that time. We were a great support for each other, on an adventure that neither one of us knew what it was going to be. So it's hard to hear that he won't be doing it."

Seacrest, the other original cast member, will provide a stable center. He signed a two-year contract with "American Idol" producers this spring to continue as host.

The Fox series, which began with Jackson, Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul as judges, has made changes on the panel over the years. Ellen DeGeneres joined one season, and songwriter Kara DioGuardi was added as a fourth judge to work with Jackson, Cowell and Abdul.

As always, we'll stay tuned.

Michael Clark Duncan On the Mend After Heart Attack

Michael Clark Duncan and Omarosa Manigault-Stallworth
Michael Clarke Duncan is in stable condition and on the mend after suffering a heart attack, the "Green Mile" actor's publicist told TheWrap.

"According to doctors, Michael Clarke Duncan suffered a myocardial infarction early this morning," a spokeswoman for the actor said. "He is now stable and we look forward to his full recovery."

Local media reports that Duncan, 54, was found in a state of cardiac arrest by his girlfriend, "The Apprentice" vet Omarosa Manigault-Stallworth. Omarosa discovered Duncan's condition slightly before 2 a.m. revived him by administering CPR.

Duncan, most recently starred as Leo Knox in the Fox series "The Finder," which was canceled in May.

"The Finder" creator Hart Hanson tweeted Friday afternoon that he visited Duncan, who was in the company of his girlfriend and his former "Finder" co-star Geoff Stults.

"I just left MCD and @OMAROSA and @geoffstults at the hospital. MCD is a mighty spirit. Beam him your good thoughts for a quick recovery!" Hanson wrote.
